3 Tips To Earning Fast Money At Home

When it comes to earning fast money at home there are a few very important things you need to think about first. The most important thing is whether the business that you are starting is it a passion of yours or are you just doing it to get some money? This is very important because most people try to earn money at home for the wrong reasons and this causes them to quit early on.

The two other things you need to think about is the time commitment and the money needed to get started. The reasons these aren't the most important is because you can always find time and getting money is not a problem to most people. Now that you know the answers to those questions here are 3 tips to earning fast money at home.

1. Stick to earning little amounts - The reason why you should stick to earning small amounts is because most people will rather pay a little bit for something than a lot for something. So whether you have a service or are selling items make sure you give the best deal you can to still make a decent profit because then the customers might buy more from you then or even later.

2. Use what you have - One of the things that most people never think about is using items that they already have in their homes. For instance I wanted to run a rental service so I rented out a paint sprayer I had. I rented it out for about 4 months until I was ready to paint my house and then I painted my house and then sold it. This was a great way to earn fast money using something I already had.

3. Sell thing you don't need - Now this is the hardest part for most people, trying to decide what you don't need and what you do need is almost impossible. Here is the trick that I use whenever I want to earn fast money. I always figure out what items I have used in the past 3 months and if I haven't used the item then I sell it. It is a very simple way or earning fast money and also clearing out your home.

Practical Tips for Entrepreneurs - How to Take Care of Finances While Building a Client Base

It is easy to get bogged down in marketing, production development, and the myriad of tasks that go into generating revenue in a small business. Entrepreneurs need a way to stay on schedule and manage the other activities in their business. Accounting and finance are two areas that business owners cannot afford to let fall behind. Ignore them too long and the results will show up in the bottom line and net worth.

Here are three ways to nurture your finances while you build a client base.

1. Make Consistent Improvements. How you use cash in your business is important. If your goal is to create an enterprise that is self-sustaining, meaning that it can support itself and you, then you can not allow financial mismanagement to rule. Take control by monitoring your revenue and spending. Watching over these areas is not simply for the sake of having updated books or financial reports that you never read.

To find hidden growth opportunities you need to know the story behind your numbers. For example, if you notice changes in gross profit, take a look at each of the factors that influence its total. Ask yourself what is happening to cause the results to change? Is there something that you can do to get better results?

2. Know the Basics. If it has been a while since you took your last accounting course make it a goal to get up to speed with accounting basics. Even if you are going to assign someone else to do the work for you it is good to know how to use accounting terms, principles, and tools.

Financial reports are your company's report cards. The results are the grades that help you determine where you are excelling and where you could use additional help. Being able to spot key indicators is how you will improve your business.

3. Check in Regularly. Be sure that you carve out time to go over financial results with the people who handle your accounting. Pull out your reports and ask questions that will help you make sense of what is going on. Take notes and listen for new insights as they surface. Go back to your stated goals for the period to see how close or off track you are.

Then go a step further and use the advice that you get during each session. Are there additional ways that will make your company more efficient in operations? Did you identify any new insights that can help accelerate growth? Talking with your accountant goes beyond their recording financial transactions. It can help you uncover new ideas, reduce waste and inefficiencies, and find hidden potential for increasing your bottom line.

The Mindset of an Entrepreneur

What exactly is the mindset or a entrepreneur? An entrepreneur thinks about business and expanding all the time. There is nothing that they would not do in order for them to get to the next level, whatever that may be.

People like this are not just focused on money like most people may think, they are focused on power and sell fulfillment. Here are the 4 things that make the mindset of an entrepreneur different from that of an average person.

Think big and long term

Most average people don't think long term but they do think big. This is a recipe for disaster because thinking big requires that you think long term. What successful people understand is that building an empire doesn't happen overnight, you have to work at it, and perfect every aspect of the business. Just remember that thinking big and long term means you understand the work needed to be done.

24/7 advancing

What is 24/7 advancing? Well it is when you are thinking about what you can do to help advance your life or your business all day every day. For most people this would be an exhausting task, but for an entrepreneur it is part of what makes them who they are and gives them the ideas to move forward.

Micro gains

Everybody knows selling a cooking for.01 profit is a waste of time, right? Well not always, successful people understand the importance of a micro gain and how it will affect them down the line. People think that making a.01 profit is just a waste of time, but is it? Entrepreneurs know that a.01 profit is just the start, but they think about instead of pumping up the price to pump out more cookies which will bring in more profit.

Planner

When it comes to success you can't be 100% sure you will be successful, but you can make sure you are pretty close every time, right? Planning is the key to any success story, and those who don't plan fail more than 50% of the time. Did you know that 98% of all successful people have a day planner of some kind that they carry around?

The reason they carry around a day planner is because they know that in order to be successful they have to use every minute of every day wisely. It doesn't matter if you are planning for a big company or just planning out your day, it needs to be done and done right.

These are the 4 things that successful entrepreneurs have in common with each other and that most average people lack. If you would like to become an entrepreneur someday then check out these ideas to make money.

Start An Online Business - Tips From The Book Crush It

In my last few articles I have been reviewing the book Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk. Although he primarily describes how he built his wine business, he also offers great principles that can be used in any niche. They are some of the same principles I learned when I started an online business.

Start An Online Business - Make the Decision to Go For it!

Vaynerchuk is known for asking people, "Are you happy with your job?" He says that if you are not just dying to get out of bed in the morning and go to work, you might consider doing something else. And I can admit that in the last years of my home remodeling business that is exactly how I felt.

I know a lot of people on my own email list want to do something else with their time and energy. But it can also be scary to decide to go for it. You might consider working at night to build your own business, going at it on a part-time basis until you build some momentum!

Start An Online Business - Go Viral

You might consider one idea for building an internet business that we are going to be implementing throughout the year: a little more social media. And a little more viral marketing. This can take a little bit of time to build up. But we are going to be giving out good content on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, those kinds of things.

Again, this is something that takes a little time, especially if your company has strict rules about posting on social media sites while you are at work. I have even heard of some companies that discourage posting outside of work.

Start An Online Business - Build Your OWN Brand

A brand is what differentiates you from others in your niche. With Vaynerchuk, he knew he was not a good writer, so when blogs came along, he knew that was not for him. So he continued to wait.

When videos became popular, he saw the potential with videos. That is when he decided he would use videos to develop his brand: WineLibraryTV.

One brand that my wife and I have been working on is "The Couple Next Door." We want people to see us normal people who do everyday regular things, but we have just sort of fallen into some concepts that work online. And that is the truth. We are not internet marketing gurus or business hotshots. We like to share with people so that they can be successful.

One thing to remember as you are developing your brand is giving good content. Good content is essential, and one of the best ways to do that is through storytelling. Vaynerchuk is a great storyteller. And when you tell stories, people remember, and then they can associate whatever the content is with what you are trying to teach them.

There are still so many other elements to starting an internet business: building your list, choosing your platform, capitalizing on your strengths, etc. If you want to know how to start an online business, Vaynerchuk's book is a MUST read. It can offer you some useful insight.

Recession-Proof Business Ideas - Starting a Lawn Business

Starting a lawn business is fairly easy. Because grass continues to grow, a lawn business is not affected by recession. It provides steady work since it is a continuous need and you don't really need any large start-up capital. While you are still starting out, all you need is a simple lawn mower.

You will also need to have a way to transport it to your place of work. Once you get a contract, if you just do your job well, the customer will always come back to you for your services so you don't have to look for other customers.

After your lawn business is already stable, you can begin to expand and offer additional services like landscaping, installation of patios, sprinklers, and other lawn related work. Then you can also hire workers to help you with the additional jobs. And buy additional equipment needed in the expansion of your business.

The only thing that you should know here is that because it is such a lucrative business idea, you can expect a lot of competition. Aside from this, the prices that you can ask for your services is fixed and steady and doesn't go up fast. You may also encounter some troublesome customers but it is part of the game so you just have to be more patient.

Whatever problems that you may encounter in your lawn business, it is all within the normal range of problems that all businessmen face. The difference here is in the preparation for starting your lawn business. You should know the job that you are doing so that you can do it well. A little research and knowledge in basic accounting and taxation would help a lot as well.

Knowing When to Quit

Quitters never win, winners never quit, that is a great motivational quote for anyone who strives for success in any given field of their life, my personal interpretation of this saying is quite different to what you see and may understand.

The problem with never quitting when it seems obvious to you that events no matter how positive you think and feel are not going favourably is that you are going to continue to remain static or worse, move backwards.

I would think most people including myself have been in a situation were they wanted a romantic situation to happen but try as you may the other person is not interested, if you continue you know you are only going to get yourself upset and in a negative state of mind, to let go and make a fresh start is a positive step forwards.

What you have done is changed your perspective, taken a step to one side and moved on to your next goal, I find a great way to think about this is to say to yourself, " I am in the process of", if you say this to yourself it is then impossible to have actually failed or quit, you are just changing your prospective.

Exactly the same situation happens in business, day in, day out worldwide.

If your new venture or existing business is struggling, you have tried everything to keep trading but you are losing money at an alarming rate, then sometimes it is good business sense to know when to quit.

This is a situation I know only too well, a couple of years ago I leased a very busy bar-club in the Canary islands, business was outstanding and so was my lifestyle, the banking crises happened and suddenly many people stopped taking vacations or the ones that did certainly spent less, the result for me personally was takings down 75%.

That is a huge amount for any business to weather the storm, I made cuts wherever possible but still the bottom line was I was losing money at an alarming rate.

The only decision I could make was to quit while I was still ahead, knowing when to quit while I still had capital is a decision that I did not take lightly but one that I knew was the right thing to do.

To have carried on would have meant me going into my savings and probably bankruptcy eventually.

This of course is my own personal experience of knowing when to quit and I hope many people reading this do not have the same problems as I did, you may have a sales campaign that is not going the way you planned or you are paying for software or an advertising agency and it is not working out, my advice would be re-access the situation and take the necessary action.

By taking action you have not failed, you are still "in the process of", you may have to change your perspective and then move towards your goal again.

In business we all take a gamble or that is what most people would have you believe, a gamble as far as I am concerned is a 50-50 bet or when the odds are against you, do not gamble, take a calculated risk were the odds are more in your favour!

I wish everyone the best in their business ventures and sometimes we all need the wisdom of Soloman, but by implementing "I am in the process of" when situations have not gone your way you are always moving forwards.

Making a Good Living As a Professional Coach

Being a successful professional coach means that you are able to make a comfortable, full-time living from coaching. Most coaches are drawn to the profession because of their sincere desire to help others - and indeed the world needs coaches.

After all the time and effort you put into your professional training, don't forget you need to spend additional time setting yourself up for success by planning and implementing your marketing strategy.

Since many coaches do not have a business or marketing background, getting this type of support and mentoring in your field of specialty is essential in order to become a successful coach practitioner.

Here are Five Steps to Building a Successful Coaching Practice:

STEP 1: Get coaching training

- Select a training program that fits you and delivers on ALL your needs.
- Coaching is a specific methodology and requires specific training, even if you think you already know how.
- Credibility comes from having qualifications.
- Set yourself up for success by doing it "right."

STEP 2: Choose a specialty and niche

- Your "profession" is your job title, which might be "Professional Coach." Your "specialty" is your area of focus within your profession, such as "Relationship Coach." Your "niche" is the specific group of people you help, such as "Relationship Coach for Singles."
- Choosing a specific niche is much more effective for attracting prospects and convincing them to hire you. Many practitioners struggle, especially coaches, when you resist choosing a niche and try to market to a general, broad audience.
- Be unique, follow your passion, become an expert in your niche.

STEP 3: Design your service delivery system for your niche

- Here is the secret to guaranteed success: Market Research with the people in your niche to learn what they need and want.
- Sell programs, not sessions! Don't try to market "coaching;" design and market a coaching program tailored to the needs and goals of your niche.
- Provide group services, such as classes, workshops, and group coaching. This is more affordable for your niche and is more profitable for you and leverages your time more effectively.

STEP 4: Apply marketing strategies to develop prospects

- Marketing is simply communicating what you do.
- You can market till the cows come home and not get any clients! The primary outcome of marketing is to develop prospects
- Three primary forms of marketing are:

1. Speaking
2. Writing
3. Networking

STEP 5: Apply enrollment strategies to convert your prospects to clients

- Focus on benefits and results. What will your client "get" and how will their life be different from working with you?
- Build your relationship with your prospective clients by providing and proving your value.
- Do not provide "sample" or "complimentary" sessions. Instead, offer a "[biggest goal or problem] Strategy Session" designed to be enticing to your niche (e.g. "Find the Love of Your Life Strategy Session" for singles).
- Learn and apply strategies for closing, overcoming objections, addressing common questions. Enrollment is a specific skill requiring practice and specific strategies. Once you've mastered this skill you will be able to get all the clients you can handle!
- Follow up, Follow up, Follow up. "Your fortune is in the follow up." This is where most practitioners fall short as most clients will hire you through your follow up efforts, not your initial contact.

Being a Professional Coach is a wonderful way to make a very good living as well as make a positive impact in the world. Building a successful business as a Professional Coach is much easier than you might think if you follow these five steps. If you want to help others and find that your family and friend often come to you to talk about their problems, this growing profession is probably a good fit for you!

Self Employment Business Advice

First of all, you should cover all the right bases and get the schooling you need to learn about your career choice and get the skills you need to become a success in your business. There are some risks that you will need to know about when it comes to being your own boss.

It is important to talk to other business owners when starting up your own business so they can give you the pros and cons of being self-employed and running your own business.

It is good to get all the advice that you can about your new business so you can make sure you are taking the right steps to make your business run smoothly without any catches.

This is why talking to other business owners, especially those within the same type of business or field as you are intending, is a good idea in order to learn more about what processes and experiences they went through.

Forming good relationships with other business owners can benefit your business, especially if someday they refer some of their customers to you. Your local chamber of commerce is a good place to learn about the requirements needed for filing state and local forms. Here you can talk to other business owners within your community.

Some of these business owners may help you with finding services and equipment that can help your business to grow and become a success.

When being self-employed and owning your own business, you must consider taxes. Finding someone that you can trust to handle your taxes each year is a good idea. This person will be able to inform you about the tax laws for a business owner.

Some business owners have accountants handle their taxes. If you need advice and help with getting a loan for your business your bank will be able to help you with this no matter what size of business you are planning to start.

Absorption Rate and Why it Matters to Your Investment

Chances are if you are new to property investment you may be a little overwhelmed with all of the terminology that you are being faced with. After all, when you were making your initial investment in your residence, you don't recall hearing terms such as absorption rates.

Maybe you are thinking that it really is not something that you care to take an interest in with this potential property investment, but you have to change your mindset here. Real estate investing is a business, whether you are investing in one property or several.

Therefore you must treat it as such and look at it from all different directions. This means paying attention to the absorption rate because it can have a direct effect on your investment.

It really is not difficult to understand, and in fact you may find it quite interesting. It merely means how long it will take the property to sell on the market in a given area.

Let's say there are 500 homes in an area and every month 50 of these homes sell. This means it would take 10 months to sell all the homes. Therefore you can assume that if you are the seller that you are looking at an average of 10 months to sell your home. If on the other hand you wanted to sell quicker than this it would mean lowering your price.

This all sounds like pertinent news for the seller but to what advantage can you as the buyer use it for? If the absorption rate is high in the area you are considering your purchase then it means more homes are on the market, and this means more competition the sellers will be facing. Your potentially lower offer may seem like a good deal based on this.

The absorption rate is just one of many areas of significance when contemplating a realty investment. If you apply the same careful research tactics when putting your financing in place then you are beginning to cover both ends of your investment.

For example, you are being astute at your potential purchase but at the other end of the spectrum you are weighing out your options on your cost to invest. When you put your full potential into both of these areas you are making your prospective investment that much stronger.

By having the opportunity to take advantage of various real estate tactics when investing it gives you more leverage as a viable investment compared to other types of investments that you don't have near the same amount of control over.

Start a Home Handyman Business

Are you the go-to guy on the block when it comes to household repairs? Every street has its resident handyman, and if you are the one in your neighborhood that is called on to fix leaky sinks, replace appliance plugs, and so on, then perhaps it is time that you turned your abilities and skills into profit by starting a home handyman business!

In all reality, when given an alternative, most folks would rather spend their free time doing anything other than fixing the many little problems that tend to pop up around the home. Home repairman businesses are always in demand in every neighborhood, in every city around the country.

And having your own small business can help you to supplement your regular income or to build a full time income doing something that you enjoy. If you're tired of "working for the man" then this type of business can be your ticket to financial freedom and independence.

Getting Started

Since you are "handy", then chances are good that you already have the tools of the trade in your home garage. That means that starting an actual repairman business is going to be less expensive for you than most other types of businesses would be.

You will still need to get a business license and to carry insurance. You may also need a contractors license and a certificate of safety that authorizes you to work with electricity and plumbing.

Find out the exact requirements and certifications, permits, and licenses you will need by visiting your local courthouse. After you have met the legal requirements, you will want to look at different names for your handyman business, and find a catchy name that says a lot about what you offer and your philosophy of doing business.

You will also want to purchase some record keeping/bookkeeping software, unless you plan to pay an accountant to keep your books for you.

After all these years of helping others out (mostly free of charge) you may be unsure about what services go for nowadays. Research other handyman businesses in your area, and set your rates competitively based on their rates. You will likely want to charge more for after hours and weekend work. You can charge a flat rate per job or an hourly rate, and it is a good rule of thumb to give free estimates as needed.

Create a list of services that lets your clients know what you can and cannot do. For example, if you do plumbing jobs and electrical jobs but not carpentry jobs, make that clear when you advertise your services.

You should also create a list of good references for those folks who will ask for them. This should include folks that you have done a good job for in the past who will sing your accolades if asked about your performance.

When advertising your business, be sure to use the regular avenues, like newspapers and flyers. Also consider having a custom website built where you can draw in new customers from your local area every time that someone from your community searches for a handyman. A website can catapult your handyman business to success!

A Step by Step Guide to Starting a Business For Beginner Entrepreneurs

Who said that you do not need a guide for starting a business? Starting a business is not easy. If it were, everyone would be doing it. It's definitely not impossible though. The key is knowing where and how to start. Hopefully this simple guide to starting a business will help you with just that.

Step 1:
Write a business plan. If you are building a business from scratch, you definitely need one of these. Not only will it keep you focused and organized, but it will also help with funding. Banks and private investors want to see that their money is going to be well spent and that your plan is solid enough that they're likely to get their money back.

Step 2:
Location, location, location. I know you've heard this one before. If your business is not home or internet based, you will need a physical commercial space. Do research and figure out what area would be best for the type of services or products you offer.

You will have to balance that with things like commute, likelihood of disaster (I.e., robbery, flood, etc), and surrounding commercial buildings. Once you've got a general area in mind, it is time to shop around a bit and compare prices. Be prepared for steep prices for small space in comparison to residential property.

Step 3.
Get some funding. Once you have a business plan ready, you can present it to banks and try to get a loan. Alternatively, you can try and find an investor or two to give you some funding in exchange for a percentage of your profits. Either way, prepare for a lot of negotiating and a bit of a wait. Getting a loan approved, no matter the source, takes time.

Step 4.
Take care of the legalities. Before you can legally open, you will need to register your business, apply for a tax I.D. number, and make sure any and all permits and/or licenses needed are at hand and up to date.

This sounds like a lot of work, and it is, but it is better than getting financially crippling fines, or even getting shut down. In addition, if you're not a sole proprietor, you'll need to learn the ins and out of hiring employees and related things like worker's comp, unemployment, and things like that.

Step 5.
Promote. Once you have everything set up, get the word out about your business so you can start making a profit. Hopefully you covered methods for doing this in your business plan. Even so, there are always new ways to let people know about your business so it's a good idea to continually revise your marketing plan.

Which Subcontractors to Choose For Your Cleaning Business?

Subcontractors play an important role in your house cleaning business. In fact, they can be very important in the growing of your cleaning company. How is this so? They can open cleaning business opportunities for you, and they can also boost your cleaning business' marketing as well. That is why choosing the right subcontractors for your cleaning business is a crucial aspect that you must give focus on.

Choose Who Can Promote

In choosing which subcontractors to work with, choose those who can help in the promotion of your business. But such, this means that they can open more cleaning business opportunities for you by being able to tell their other clients about you.

Of course, you should choose a subcontractor who doesn't offer the same services as you do. Otherwise, things can end up the other way around - you end up bringing customers to them and losing yours.

Remember that customers like to work with a single company that has everything they need; something like a one stop shop. So make sure that the subcontractor you hire can make your house cleaning business grow by allowing you to provide a service that your client requested for (but you don't have in your basic services list) and not the other way around.

Choose Who Can Do Things Like You Do

If you have standards on how your jobs should be done, then most clients will like you and in fact, they are most likely to refer you to their friends and relatives too. So when choosing a subcontractor for a certain service, choose one that can do things as well as you can.

That will maintain the standards that your company is known for, and that will also make things go smoothly with the client. See that decision of yours as a good cleaning business marketing consideration - you can't just choose anyone to do the job, especially when it's your name that is at stake.

Choose Who Are Pleasant

Another thing that you should be conscious of, when working with subcontractors, is to note if they are pleasant people - their crew, especially. When you send these people to your client's homes or offices, these people represent you.

And if they are rude or mean, that would be bad advertisement for your cleaning company. So always try to make sure that you can control the quality of people you send to your clients.

Hence, just like in hiring your own cleaning crew, be conscious of their background because they do the job in your client's place under your company's name. You can't afford having them mess things up.

A Fiction Author's Trick to Unleash Your Creativity

It is always interesting to me, as a fiction author, when people come up to me and say, "Mr. Franz, I have a great idea for a book you could write."

They always speak breathlessly, and in hushed tones, as if they had uncovered the secrets of nuclear fission, as they tell me their idea for a book about the cute things their child says. Or the story of a wise old man, just like their father.

Sigh.

The reality is that creative ideas are not unique, rare, valuable items. Rather, quite the opposite is true. Good ideas are everywhere and can show up at any time. Whether you are writing a new sales letter or a web page or a children's book, or the great American novel, there is a creative idea waiting for you to find it. You just have to know where to look.

Think of it this way: In Chicago, where I live, finding a beautiful, colorful seashell lying on the ground would be a unusual experience. But when we vacation on the beaches of Sanibel Island, Florida, it's impossible not to find colorful shells. They're everywhere, with more washing up on shore with each wave of the tide.

If we think of ideas as colorful shells, then the trick is simply to get our mind out of Chicago, and down to the beach!

And here's the secret that most creative people won't tell you: To get a brilliant, creative idea, you must look outside the usual sources.

For example, if you need to create a new sales brochure, many people would simply type "brochure" into Google and look for inspiration. How boring. That's like looking for sea shells in Chicago. The creative person would do things a bit differently.

Instead of Chicago, the creative person would look in Sanibel Island. Instead of looking at other brochures, how about looking to these places instead:

* The book covers of the top ten best seller list
* A collection of vintage movie posters from the 1940's
* The stripes of a sports car at a Porsche dealership
* New watches at an expensive jeweler in the mall
* Video game covers at the computer store

You see, none of the examples above have anything to do with business, or writing or sales brochures. They have to do with fun, creativity, great design, and eye catching graphics. If you sought them out with the goal of finding something you could use for your own project, you will see things as if with X-ray vision.

Ideas pop into your head, warping images and text into the shape of the brochure you are trying to write. Keep asking yourself the question, "How could I use this on my project?" over and over, and your brain will feed you results.

If, instead of looking for brochure samples online, you spent an afternoon fast cars, expensive watches and hot video games, I guarantee the ideas would flow out of you faster than you could keep up. You will soon find that your problem is not getting a new idea - it's deciding which great idea you want to work on first!

Making Money From Training

IN these tough economic times, it's important for us to focus on income possibilities instead of just worrying about our financial problems. If we can envision a more prosperous future and then channel our energies into productive activities, then we will eventually overcome the money challenges that burden us today.

Over the past weeks, we have been highlighting a variety of options to earn extra money. If you are looking for part-time income, remember to concentrate on opportunities that fit your natural talents, which can be carried out after regular work hours or on weekends. Today, let's look at ways to create income sources from training.

In this information age, many people recognise the importance of training to attain their goals. However, the problem is that most educational sources are priced beyond the means of the average consumer. In offering solutions to the market, you can gain a competitive advantage by charging lower rates and being more flexible to meet customers' needs.

People who will succeed in the training arena should have these competencies: a thorough knowledge of their subject area; the ability to impart key concepts to others; the patience and persistence to work with persons who may be slow to learn; the desire to see others achieve their goals; and a genuine love for teaching.

Here are some possible ways that you can earn extra income from training:

Homework Centre

Many people are feeling very pressured about helping their children with homework. After a hard day's work, most parents have little energy left to figure out the intricacies of their kids' curriculums, but they would like them to get the necessary assistance to succeed. With a little space on your patio or at your dining table, you could easily create a small homework centre and provide this necessary service for a few students.

Math / English

One of the challenges for a large number of adults in Jamaica is that they never passed the all-important subjects of English and Mathematics in school. This situation hampers their job-hunting success and their ability to perform in the workforce. If you have a knack for these subjects and the willingness to work patiently with adult students, then you could create a satisfying income source.

Specialty Subjects

Due to the lack of qualified teachers for certain specialty subjects such as geography or technical drawing, some schools don't offer these topics for external examinations. However, there are students who will need to pass these subjects in order to attain their desired occupations. If you have the knowledge to successfully train people in these subjects and take them to exam success, then this may be a great option for you to earn.

Children with special needs

In recent years, there has been more awareness of the needs of children with disabilities, especially those with intellectual challenges. One of the biggest problems for parents of children with autism, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other learning impairments, is the shortage of institutions and trained special educators that cater to them.

Many of these children also need extra reinforcing after school to help them to retain what they learnt. Even without specialised training, persons who have a talent for using stimulating exercises to teach the basics of reading, writing and math can earn extra income by offering tutoring services to children with special needs.

Computer / Internet

In our technologically driven society, it is increasingly difficult for persons to survive without using a computer or the Internet. Senior citizens, persons without access to personal computers and small business operators, are all prospective customers for an enterprising person who wishes to teach basic computing skills. With a few computer stations and a little patience, you could develop a very lucrative side job.

Accounting Packages

Providing services for the small business community has tremendous potential for the enterprising entrepreneur. One area of immediate need for micro operators is training on the use of simple accounting packages such as QuickBooks, given the increased efforts of the Tax Administration to get small enterprises tax compliant. If accounting is your specialty, you can develop a course that demonstrates how to use this software to satisfy their bookkeeping requirements.

Customer Service

Another major area that bedevils many small enterprises is the low level of customer service provided by their staff members. The typical entrepreneur lacks an understanding of human relations practices that can help to streamline their service delivery. Using innovative techniques and the wealth of information available on the Internet, you can create a training module that addresses this need.

If you focus on where people have a need for training, then you can think of several other areas to target for a tutoring business. You can advertise your services by putting up attractive flyers at offices, schools, supermarkets and churches, and by word of mouth from your satisfied customers.

Profitable Pursuits of the Almost Retired

The old paradigm went something like this. "Work for the same company for 30 years. Retire at 65 with a pension. Play golf."

The new paradigm works something like this. "Work for 4-5 different companies as you climb the corporate ladder. Get laid off at 55 with 200,000 in your 401k. Now what?"

As companies have been cutting costs to weather the recession, the experienced employee has taken the hardest hit. Fifty something's are being replaced by twenty something's who will work for half their salary.

Middle management jobs are going away, possibly never to return again. With no pension and insufficient funds to retire to the golf course, many capable and experienced managers are moving to entrepreneurism as their retirement plan.

During the dot com bubble of the 90's, it seemed 25 was the age to start a business. A recent Kaufman Institute study showed that the age at which entrepreneurs start new businesses was steadily rising. Entrepreneurism, once thought the pursuit of the young and energetic, is fast becoming the pastime of the wise and experienced.

An experienced manager (age 55) can start as an owner/operator of a service business. After a few years establishing the business, he can easily transition to an owner/manager. He can keep busy, but at a slower pace and enjoy a semi-retirement status well into his seventies.

There are two key advantages inherent in the older entrepreneur.

1 - Experience. Older entrepreneurs have been around the block a few times. After years of management meetings, they know how to plan and budget. They know the importance of setting obtainable goals and measuring accomplishment. They can handle people and are unafraid to hire and, when necessary, fire. They don't fall for every slick sales pitch that comes through the door and can smell a rotten egg when it is standing in front of them.

2 - Network. Older entrepreneurs have connections. A recent Kaufman Institute survey of successful business owners showed that they ranked personal and business network connections as important as access to capital financing when starting a new business. If you are starting a service business and know people in a dozen area companies who could use your service, you are off to a good start.

Many excellent business models lend themselves to the older entrepreneur. Business consulting, coaching and training allow the entrepreneur to take advantage of their years of experience and share it with others.

Direct marketing businesses take advantage of the entrepreneurs vast network of professionals acquired over time. Other business models such as mobile food service vending at events allows the entrepreneur to travel extensively.

More and more professionals are finding the capital to start their new business venture in the IRA or 401k. For most, their 401k is not enough to retire on. It is, however, enough to start a new business.

Some accounting firms specialize in rolling over 401k's into a business investment that can provide an income well into retirement. It is a special provision of the ERISA law that is too involved to go into here, but it is entirely legal and increasingly popular.

Whatever your age, going into business for yourself takes careful thought and planning. It is helpful to take stock of your key asset, yourself. What are you interests, goals, and investment capital?

Do you want to work from home or would you rather have an office? What business model would fit your personality? A thorough assessment, reviewed by a small business consultant can help you get on the right track.

Finally, ask yourself, "Do I have the courage to act? Individuals who have worked in a job for 20 or 30 years may find entrepreneurship a daunting possibility. Not everyone is cut out to be an entrepreneur, but utilizing the experience and network of the older entrepreneur can be fun and profitable.

Starting Your Own Business - Terrifying Or Exhilarating?

Starting your own business can be terrifying, but, at the same time exhilarating. There may be many times at the beginning of this journey, that you will long for the safety net of a regular job, with regular hours, and with a regular income.

In the wee small hours of the morning, when you're longing for sleep, your brain will be bursting with all manner of scary images, not least the looming threat of failure.

Just remember to ask yourself why you decided to take this journey in to the unknown. Was it for financial freedom, (something that may look decidedly unobtainable at the beginning)? Was it to prove something to your peers, and, more importantly, yourself? Or was it to follow a dream?

When we're young, we all have dreams. How many of us can remember we'd set our hearts on travelling the world, writing a novel, beating a record?

What happened to those dreams? For most of us, they were tucked neatly away, sometimes aired once in a while, then pushed back, never to surface again, while we got on with the business of surviving.

Never give up on your dreams. They are what made you, so you have an obligation to fulfill them. Going it alone when starting a new business doesn't necessarily mean just that. There's bucket loads of support out there, and it's not hard to find. As a small business owner myself, I found my greatest allies were other small business owners.

They were the obvious, and most sensible choice, when asking for advice. And, to a man, (or woman) they were generous with their support. They had once started the same journey I was on, and knew the pitfalls and setbacks I would encounter.

Business owners nearly always try to support each other; indeed, in most cases, they rely on other small businesses to survive. It is in their own interest to offer a helping hand.

Never be afraid to ask for advice, and never be afraid to admit you may have been doing something wrong. Others may be able to see faults which aren't always obvious to you. If something isn't working, don't cling on to it, just because you thought it was a good idea.

Try to be positive, even when everything, and everyone, seems to be conspiring to make life more difficult. Success breeds success, failure attracts more failure.

I wish you all every success.

A Christian Entrepreneur Should Pray For Wisdom and Not Money

This may sound strange that a Christian entrepreneur needs wisdom first and not money. Wisdom is from God. The source for Intuition, smartness, intelligence and common sense are human and earthly. There is nothing wrong with and we do so much with our innate capabilities.

But wisdom is from above. This godly wisdom is the ability to know the right from wrong. It is the ability to make decisions based on godly principles. It is the ability to be bold and courageous in the face of danger and adversaries.

The wisdom from the world comes out bitter envy and strife in our hearts. It glories itself and lies against truth. Most sales pitches and advertisement tend to lie more than tell the truth about their products. That is the nature of greed for money.

What is the motive for advertisement? It is to sell and why do a Christian entrepreneur want to sell? Most want to sell to make what we call as a 'quick buck'. Very few are concerned about the customer who buys.

But wisdom that God gives us is first pure and unadulterated. It is then peaceful. It is also gentle in all its dealings. It is full of good works and mercy. It never shows partiality in all his decisions and is not hypocritical.

As a Christian entrepreneur our primary goal is to do the right thing every time. God is not against business but against wrong and sinful ways of doing business. The bible talks about balances. In the olden days most everything was measured or weighed in a trade deal. The business men can easily fix those balances and measures to show more than what it showed.

When you sell 1 pound God wants you sell 1 pound in your balance and not ¾ of a pound. This selling short is a common evil practice among evil businessmen that is admired and praised. God is not pleased with such a person. God expects a Christian entrepreneur to be honest and truthful in all his dealings.

God invites us to come to him if we need wisdom. The wisdom God gives from above will take us through life pleasing God in all that we do. The Bible encourages us to ask for wisdom if we lack it. Go ahead and ask him and he will give you wisdom with all other things. Seek God and his wisdom and all these things will be given to as well.

Wholesale Books For Great Savings

If you're planning to open a bookstore, finding suppliers that can give you wholesaling prices of books should be one of your topmost priorities. This can help you save on costs when you buy in bulk.

When you buy per piece, the price per book will end up higher than if you bought wholesale. Most businessmen usually buy in bulk because it allows them to have greater potential for more profit.

If you're going to buy books from wholesalers, you should get to know them to understand how their services make a difference. Though there are two kinds of companies selling wholesale books in the industry.

One sells books for educational and mass distribution purposes. The other sells books for those who are fond of collecting them. Either way, when you buy books in bulk, you get the same cost-savings benefits.

The first thing you can do is to contact the publishers and ask them for titles of specific books you're looking for. For these companies to entertain you, you must present your license as a business owner to attest that you are legally selling books. This way, they can allow you to buy stocks at wholesale prices.

Book distributors, in particular, transact with both public and private educational institutions like high schools, colleges and universities. They cater to businesses and private and government agencies.

However, they also support needs of faculties ordering more than fifty books. When you buy books in bulk, you need to ensure the legitimacy of the company you're buying from. Books are regulated to meet certain standards, especially for educational purposes.

When looking for a distributor, you need to find out about their order process. It should be fair on both sides and hassle-free. For example, they should provide samples of a wide range of choices.

They should be able to provide these books for you to inspect in a place where there is no distraction and you are able to scrutinize each one without missing anything. Upon purchase, they should provide low-cost shipment or free delivery.

As a client, you deserve to be comfortable in every way. Even while you're still considering which supplier or distributor to choose, be sensitive about the way they treat you while you haven't officially wrapped up any deal with them.

They should be friendly and accommodating when you have to ask questions or seek clarifications. Remember, a company that doesn't listen to you now will probably not listen to you later when you have signed a contract with them and they begin think the success of your business depends on them.

Business Cracks Will Break Your Business' Back

Do you remember what we used to say as kids, "step on a crack, and break your mamas' back!"? Well, now that we are all grown up, the old adage still rings true - to an extent. As adults in the business world, we are discovering that actually stepping on your business cracks without repairing them can really break its back.

Are there cracks in your business? Not just your foundation, but in other areas, as well?

Business cracks come from errors. Errors come from a lack of knowledge, a lack of resources and a lack of cash. In all honestly though, errors can result from a variety of things.

The problem occurs when we focus on quick fixing the crack. Quick fixes happen when we fail to determine the true cause of the crack (error, problem, challenge, etc.). It all boils down to re-learning the simple equation of cause and effect related to your business.

We spend so much time on fixating on the error rather than actually eliminating the cause of the error that our businesses begin failing.

Try to imagine it this way. Imagine your business is the earth and you are out in space orbiting your "business earth," looking for rough areas, soft areas and smooth areas. The smooth areas are good to go but the rough and soft areas need work.

Taking a birds-eye view of your business is ok but taking the "business earth" view of your business is taking how you operate your business to a completely strategic level.

For example, a rough area indicates a bumpy path or a bumpy area of your Small Business System.™ So, maybe the way you are going about managing your daily administrative tasks takes up all your time and you never get a chance to actually do what you planned to do on any given day.

You answer phone calls, you check emails, you create your to do lists, and so on. All these administrative tasks are getting done but they are the only things getting done. The marketing, selling, planning, managing and other strategic work is being pushed to the side.

As a result, goals are not being met, existing customers are not being serviced, new customers are not being acquired, important deadlines are being pushed back, and before you know it, it is the end of the year and your cash flow is still in the red.

This is a business crack that needs fixing. But do not begin repairing this crack by changing your hours or turning off your email. Rather, begin repairing the crack by determining the root cause of the crack.

Attack the cause first - not the effect of the cause.

Begin repairing the cause of your business cracks with these four steps:

1. Determine if it is the rough areas that need to be worked on first or if it is the soft areas that are ready to cave in and that need the attention immediately. How do you know which crack need your immediate attention?

It is based on your culture and strategic goals. Are you meeting your own expectations? Are your strategic goals set and are you on track to meet them? Only you can decide what needs immediate attention first; think long-term versus short-term fixes.

2. Begin breaking down the soft and rough areas within the key functions of your business and rank accordingly, based on what you need to work on first. Compare these to the goals you have already set; are you doing what you say you are going to do or do you keep doing the same things over and over again and getting less than stellar results? Are you the main cause of the cracks in your business?

3. Make a list of your top five business cracks and prioritize them. Take your list and put your business cracks in order of importance and emergency. There may be some cracks that need fixing in order for you to stay in business! Put those at the top of your list.

4. Take on each crack one at a time. Determine the cause of these cracks and create a strategy to alleviate them. This will take a little time but not too much. The best way to do this is to list out the action steps that need to happen to fix the cause of the cracks - put them in order and determine a schedule of completion.

Stop quick fixing your business errors and start with correcting the root cause of the error. Your business backbone will thank you with consistent cash flow and profits!

Remember, business cracks can break you business' back!

A Sensitive Conscience Keeps a Christian Entrepreneur True to God and People

A Christian entrepreneur must never forget that he is a man of God first and business man second. In order to maintain his status as a man of God he must follow simple principles. One of those is to maintain the sensitivity of his conscience.

Conscience is a funny thing. No one will deny they have a conscience. Some thing from inside tells you this is wrong and this is right. Animals may not have the exact thing. This is a spiritual inheritance from the image of God that we bear.

You can completely try to shut the conscience out from your senses and mind. But as far as history goes I do not think any one has ever successfully shut the conscience out. You will know if you are going to attempt something wrong even before you try it.

When your conscience troubles you, you have two ways to deal with it. You can go ahead and do that you feel is wrong and shut the conscience from bothering you. Yes, you can blunt the conscience from bothering you after you committed the act. But you cannot shut the conscience from telling you before the act.

You can get used to shutting the conscience down, knowing what it is going to say, so we get used to shutting it, but the fact remains it is still there. It is like a knife which is blunt from use and if you never sharpen it, it will become blunter. Your conscience can become so blunt that you can hardly hear it after some time.

When a man of God reaches that stage he is of no use to people or God. God cannot and does not talk to people who shut their conscience out. Their antenna for right and wrong goes away over time. Evil begin to take control and eventually live in the heart. Goodness and righteousness slowly die and the devil has a great command over his life.

How can you avoid reaching such a stage? You need to make sure that you do three things to stay alert and sensitive to God. 1. Read your bible everyday. 2. Pray in the spirit each day and 3. Be a part of the gathering of fellow believers at least once a week.

God is faithful but we are accountable. So if you do not take proper steps to keep your conscience and your walk with God sharp and alert, you will fall by the way side and be burned. Fruitfulness is the result of faithfulness to God and your conscience.
